From IVF to Empty Nesting: Preparing Our Kids & Ourselves for Adulthood w/Kristin Roland

In this episode of Suburban Burnout, we dive into the emotional journey of empty nesting and the challenges that come with raising kids for the real world. Our guest, Kristin Roland, recently sent her oldest son off to college in another state, and she did so without any struggle. Kristin shares the parenting approach that helped her confidently say goodbye and why she believes it’s crucial for kids to spread their wings.

We also explore Kristin’s incredible journey to motherhood. After undergoing IVF more than nine times, Kristin’s determination and mindset throughout this process are truly inspiring. She opens up about the challenges of infertility and how those experiences shaped her approach to parenting.

We discuss the differences in parenting styles that can set kids up for success when they leave for college versus those that may fall short. Kristin provides valuable insights on maintaining strong communication with your children once they’ve left home and how the family dynamic shifts as the nest begins to empty. She also offers practical advice for parents on preparing emotionally and mentally for this new phase of life.
